THE ADDED VALUE OF STUDY ABROAD

A lot of students in higher education, from all over the world, decide at one point of time to study abroad, to spend a semester, a year, or summer away from their home and home institution to experience studying in a different country. Most students decide to study abroad for the experience of living in a foreign country, not as a tourist with an outside view but to become part of a different country’s culture and society. Adding a country where the language might be a foreign one adds a level of difficulty in this integration.

STUDYING ABROAD AS A RESUME BOOSTER

A study abroad experience will be looked at as a positive point on a resume when it comes to looking for a job. It will show a person who is able to adapt to a different kind of learning and to get outside of a comfort zone. Other competencies that a student shows while studying abroad like flexibility, open-mindedness, and independence represent soft skills that an employer may appreciate.

This is why the American Business School of Paris welcomes students from the Study Abroad program to enrich their CVs with a successful experience in an international school in the heart of the City of Lights.

STUDYING ABROAD AT THE AMERICAN BUSINESS SCHOOL OF PARIS

Participating in a professional experience when studying abroad may make a difference when an employer looks at a student’s resume.

At the American Business School of Paris, some degree-seeking students participate in the Company Case Challenge which is a project designated to bring real business cases into the classroom. A few Study Abroad students are also able to take part in that program. A study abroad student coming from the USA, explains “I had part-time jobs before but never a real professional experience like the one I had during the company case. I had the privilege to lead a team made of international students from four different continents. As Junior consultants for a French Company, we worked on a real-world scenario, something that developed me professionally. I felt that this experience geared me towards what I want to do in the future, something that interests me as a future career.”

Some other students may prefer to do a formal internship abroad. This is also an opportunity that the American Business School of Paris can offer with its Study and Work Abroad Program. If a student studies abroad during a Spring Semester, he or she may then participate in a two-month internship in a French or international company. A six-month commitment in Paris is a unique experience to highlight on your resume.

Clearly study abroad adds value to a student’s personal and academic growth. Study abroad at the American Business School of Paris can also add a professional component like no other.
