Big data refers to the use of predictive analytics, artificial intelligence or a large amount of data

that are used to determine an outcome.

This academic project aims to introduce the utility and scope of big data concepts to students

in various disciplines. Big data is more and more prevalent in the world, and students need to

understand  its reach and implications on critical thinking and business decision making.

The project is driven by the goal of moving beyond counting things, to really understanding



The Big Data Project is spread over 10 classes and over 4 academic years. Students participate

in producing a tangible and publishable outcome which concisely illustrates the results of their

big data analyses. Each class adds an interesting and relevant data point to the outcome based

on their class subject. The resulting infographic will coalesce the analyses performed

throughout the year.
