WE ARE TEACHERS
On Friday, October 16th 2020, our entire nation was in mourning. Mourning for the terrible assassination of Samuel Paty, a middle-school History and Geography teacher. Mourning the attack on our values and freedoms. A one-minute silence is observed today to pay tribute to the memory of the teacher.
As an educational institution, the American Business School of Paris is particularly touched by this tragedy. All our teams – pedagogical, administrative, faculty – and our partners and students would like to express their deep sympathy to the family and loved ones of the deceased, as well as to his colleagues and pupils.
We strongly denounce violence and terrorism, in France and around the world. We hold against this act of brutality with Humanism, our humanity, one of the founding tenets of the IGS Group, our parent organization.
More than ever, our freedom of expression must be defended. More than ever, secularism and freedom of thought must be protected. They are keys to critical and constructive thinking, and learning about the others, learning how to live together.
We reaffirm our commitment to the values of secularism and freedom. Freedom to teach, freedom to express oneself.
Finally, we address our deepest thanks to all the teachers around the world. Thank you for your hard work and commitment. Thank you for building tomorrow, for nourishing the fertile ground of educated, open-minded, tolerant, and free minds.
Thank you for educating future generations.
